HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR MATERNITY SESSION | NYC MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

The female body is in it’s full glory when she is carrying her little one. Through classic and timeless portraits my aim is to embrace and empower every woman I photograph to feel her absolute best and powerful. So how do we prepare for your session, here are my top 5 pieces of advice.

SCHEDULING YOUR MATERNITY SESSION

The best time to schedule your session is between 30-36 weeks. While all pregnancy are unique, moms of multiples may want to schedule sooner. The goal is to highlight a nice, round belly while mom still feels comfortable moving through the poses.

PREPARE + PAMPER

Your maternity is not just another photo-shoot, this is a time to be completely pampered so you are your most comfortable and relaxed. Manicures and pedicures, a fresh blowout or twist out, and professional makeup will be the perfect way to start a full day celebrating every curve of your pregnancy. With makeup, avoid heavy glitter shadows.

WHAT TO WEAR

If ever there was a time to embrace your curves, it’s during your maternity session. Form fitting dresses in complimentary colors are my go to but a thin belt just under the breast-line can give shape to more loose fitting dresses.. Silks and flowing fabric will drape your figure beautifully. If you like an edgier look then your favorite jeans are the perfect classic piece to center your session on as well.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Drinking plenty of Earth’s natural glow enhancer before your session will ensure your skin looks and feels it’s been on shoot day. Avoid heavy salt in the days leading up to the session to avoid excessive bloating. On the day of our session do eat before you come in, that way you won’t be focused on how hungry you and baby are and can focus on feeling amazing.

INCLUDE DAD

I encourage all dads to come in and join in on the session. Mom is the star of this show but Dad is definitely a close second ;-). Encourage dad to come along and bring a shirt or two to compliment your outfit choices, we discuss these in our preliminary consultation before your shoot. This is one of the last times it will be just about you two for a while and we want Dad to feel a part of the entire process and sit with his little ones in the future going over how he felt when they were growing in Mommy too!

The most important tip is to relax and have fun! As your photographer, it will be my job to move you through the most flattering poses so even that is something you don’t have to worry about. A few hours to feel like you’re on the set of Vanity Fair and we’ll create timeless images to remember this most special time forever.
